![]() According to a classic, TOMOYUKI 友行 had learned Soshu-Bizen school technique in Osafune, Bizen province and also took lessons from SADAMUNE 貞宗 in Kamakura, Soshu province. TOMOYUKI 友行 is the famed sword maker for the founder of Bungo Takada school in medieval period. Back ridge of Nakago is flat and Kiri (horizontal) heel shape.Īncient times in Bungo province (now in Oita pref.) of 12th century, the famed sword smiths monk SADAHIDE 定秀 or YUKIHIRA 行平 had come out, then for a long ages in 14th century of Nanbokucho period, smith TOMOYUKI 友行 appeared in Takada town. Tang(Nakago): Nakago is substantially shortened O-suriage. Temper of tip(Boshi): Quench of Boshi is irregular frequent Hakikake indication like a flame with sharpened up indication then turns back a bit deeply. ![]() The entire quench scene is vividly bright. The interior of temper is filled with mist-like crystallize area deeply and gives off frequent "YOU" floating quench indications and shows activity of thick lines of Nie or slight lines of SUNAGASHI. Some Hotsure fray indication appears along quench area. Temper(Hamon): Hamon is a bit on strong side Nie based, Shallow Notare wavy mixing with small, irregularly slanted "Gunome" and "Choji-ha". The entire steel is a bit on bluish dark side and forging scene is full of classical grace. Upper the blade there gives off diffused reflection with a mottled effect so called "Midare-Utsuri". The entire forging appears conspicuously visible and it's surface is deeply covered in sparkling ji-nie glitter that generates darkish Nie lines grain so called CHIKEI activity. The entire shape shows an typical style of Nanbokucho period which is impressively brave holding a large tip. There are wide and deep chiselled half way Bo-hi grooves on both sides. There is less difference in width toward upper Fukura area leading to the extended large kissaki. ![]() Mihaba on base is wide and Shinogi-ridge is high holding extra thick volume of kasane in 7.7mm, solidly heavy in hands. The blade was substantially shortened that currently measures the cutting edge in 2-shaku 3-sun and 6-bu (71.8cm). Blade construction (kengyo) : Shinogi-zuruki, Iori-mune in high. ![]()
